As the cooler months arrive and we return home from our travels, it’s time to pack away our sun-drenched Euro essentials and swap them for pieces made for the brisk winter air. Whilst we’re avid summertime lovers here at Emmabodamo belaffar, we won’t deny any opportunity to add vibrancy and bold layers to complete the perfect winter look. 

With this in mind, we’re sharing the pieces that have earnt their rightful place at the front of our wardrobe for the foreseeable future, or at least until the warmth returns down under.

We know that sometimes the cooler temperatures can mean your most loved winter look may feel a little less vibrant and a whole lot more neutral. To avoid many shades of beige, we’ve styled our best selling Italian Streets Linen Maxi Skirt in Yellow with the Lucy Dynamite tee, featuring the coolest bright, red illustration. Layer with the Sorrentino Knit Cardigan and gold, chunky jewellery for an outfit that certainly doesn’t lack lustre.

For those fortunate enough to live in a subtropical climate, a statement mini dress with the addition of a chunky knit is the ultimate recipe for a cool girls winter look. The Discoteca Mini, with its side seam cut outs and silver hardware, is the perfect opportunity to still show a little sun kissed skin. Layer with the Texas Muse Knit Jumper featuring an oversized fit and pair with socks, sandals and a bucket hat for the ultimate “I just got back from Europe” winter look.

As we move between cozy restaurants and local wine bars, we can’t help but don a trusty trench coat to keep us toasty. Naturally, our most loved for this season is the Ionian Isles Trench designed in a fresh, pastel lemon tone. Match with this electric blue, wool scarf from Acne Studios and our favourite Ganni boots and the look is complete.

Creativity is at the heart of everything we do at Emmabodamo belaffar, and our home’s are no exception in performing as another blank canvas for our evolving creative ideas. With the recent move into her inner city abode, we got chatting to our co-founder and CEO, Daniella about the interiors that shape the oasis of her modern space and draw intimate connections to her own creative identity.

Casting light on the stockpiled memories of her travels and an abundance of unexpected treasures she’s collected along the way, Dan’s pulled together her own version of a little black book to guide your next interior hunt.

The painting on the right wall was created by artist Bonnie Gray as a bridesmaid gift that my best friend, and sister, bought for me. It was custom painted according to the love story of my partner, Tim, and I. I hold this piece super close to my heart.” Bonnie also sent us a letter that we got framed.

I got the painting behind our bed custom made as well by @octavia_tomyn_art. I loved her body paintings - she did it personalised for myself and my partner. My bed is by @_zenndesign. I got this custom made. You can choose your own colours and fabrics, I love boucle because it’s super neutral.

We’re big fans of vintage shopping at Emmabodamo belaffar. Mixing preloved, one-of-a-kind pieces with our latest collections is our favourite way to experiment with style. 

Shopping vintage is not only the best way to find unique pieces you won’t get anywhere else, but it’s also great for the environment and promoting circular fashion through mitigating textile waste.

While we can’t call ourselves experts, we think the team at Emmabodamo belaffar are pretty well-seasoned in the art of scoring a vintage find, so we’ve combined some of our top tips for vintage shopping (and a few of our favourite spots around the world) for you to enjoy!

TIP 1:

Get in the right frame of mind!

Prep for a day of vintage shopping by spending the morning at your fave coffee spot, scrolling through pinterest for style inspo. That way you’ll get a vibe for exactly what you’re wanting to find. 

TIP 2:

Always start in the area of the store where you’re most likely to love a piece.

It might be the shirt section, silky slips or vintage tee area - whatever’s your style, start here first. You’re guaranteed to find something you like and you’ll be able to focus more as you look further into the store, knowing you’ve already checked out your favourite area! 

TIP 3:

Don't be afraid to alter & repurpose

If you find an item that you love but it doesn't quite fit, or the style doesn’t quite suit you, consider whether it can be altered or repurposed into something else!  

TIP 4:

Prioritise prints & fabrics over silhouettes

Go straight for the prints and colours you love and avoid fabrics that are itchy or poor quality. You can always change the silhouette, but you can’t change the print or fabric. This will save you building up pieces in your wardrobe that you just never wear! 

TIP 5:

Ignore brand names and sizes!

The best vintage finds are usually from a brand you don’t recognise in a size that doesn’t make sense! Keep in mind while you shop that vintage sizes are different to modern day sizing, and most stores are filled with pieces from around the world. 

TIP 6:

Make sure to check out the accessories section

The best shoes, bags and scarfs are found in vintage stores and are often overlooked! Keep an eye out for these as you’re guaranteed to find a gem. Don’t forget to keep an open mind when looking through the scarfs - these can be repurposed as tops or a cute head band.

TIP 7:

Whenever you’re travelling, research when the markets are on and where to go!

The most incredible vintage finds are often discovered in small country towns. Whenever you’re on the road travelling, make sure to look up local market times and retro stores in the area - there are so many hidden gems in these spots!

Jumping back into routine after a break can be tough, but setting good habits and intentions can help make the process that little bit easier. We’ve collated a few of our top tips below to help you start the work year with a bang.

Sunday nights are perfect for meal prepping, because the shops are quiet and you can take the time to be slow and have fun with it. We love setting ourselves up for success in the week ahead by cooking healthy, nutritious and exciting meals!

New Outfits

Getting into the groove of a new year can often be a great opportunity to shake up your personal style. Making room in your wardrobe for new outfits can help skyrocket your confidence and set you up for success as you dive back into work/studies. Better Sleep

We love sleep, and a big thing we’re wanting to work on over here is getting better, more restful sleep, so we can tackle our days! An idea to try is to start turning off your phone an hour before bedtime, and spending some quality time with a book. The ultimate sleep routine would be drinking some delicious sleepy time tea (we love this one by T2), having a bath and reading a book, before jumping into bed and having the best sleep of our lives, every night!

Social Media Detoxing

Social media can sometimes be A LOT, and it’s really important to recognise when we need a break!  We think it’s a great idea to give your mind and body a bit of a break from the scrolling, and to take some time off your phone.  We love a casual stroll down the beach, or a hike up a beautiful mountain to give ourselves a bit of a break, spending some unplugged time with friends and family is a great way to help yourself reset and refresh!

Daniella Jones is from 95', a change of millenniums’s child. She has her roots in the capital city of Denmark, Copenhagen and lives between there and her favourite city, Barcelona where she paints her craft.

Sammy’s practice celebrates the intersection between the familiar and the sublime. Elevating the ordinary and the imperfect, her subjects are complex and free. Using an optimistic palette, she evokes nostalgia for travel and the mystique of faraway lands.

Heath Wae is a Melbourne-born, Mullumbimby based artist whose practice traverses painting, sculpture and installation. Wae creates immersive, poignant works which explore psychological and physiological shifts in the human consciousness through ideas of interconnection, duality and timelessness.

Originally from Sale, Gippsland, artist Libby Haines swapped the country for Melbourne, where she works from her home studio. As a mother and an artist, her work cherishes the joy of everyday moments and the nostalgia of objects in colourful still life paintings.

Carrick gained her independence early in life, having left home at the age of 16. This challenging path into womanhood has been reflected in her works, from simple, fluid lines on canvas representing the female form, to bold, powerful women embracing their sexuality, beauty and confidence.
